What is the best online course or just textbook to learn website development?

My mind is boggling at the options and everything just sounds like a sales tactic :P Thanks for any personal references anyone can give! What is the best online course or just textbook to learn website development?
Well, it depends, do you have any prior knowledge to the subject? If you're like my grandma, I'd recommend starting here: http://www.mouseprogram.com/mousepractice

Otherwise, "Learning PHP, MYSQL %26amp; Javascript" by Robert Nixon, O'Reilley Media, Inc. is a great place to start (http://oreilly.com/catalog/9780596157142).What is the best online course or just textbook to learn website development?
What you use depends on where you are starting from. If you are starting at the "DUH!" stage, I suggest you get either the Dummy's Guide to Website Development or the Idiot's Guide to Website Development. I have bought both books for other things and I have found them helpful, especially in explaining something to a neophyte. I started by just building a website with Webeasy 8 I believe (could have been 7) I never want to do anything easy, it seems, so I did not get far, just far enough to have a website. When you buy an internet site, the company often provides some web building tools and a tutorial, but I did not find it very helpful. I think I use monster.com which was the cheapest I found at the time and yet allowed me to do what I want. That's my three pence. What is the best online course or just textbook to learn website development?
