How do you sex baby chickens?

I am going to sell some of my baby chicks, and need to try to sex them. Do you know any way I can do that? Thanks in advance. How do you sex baby chickens? There are many tests on determining what sex your bird is. There is the comb test, the wing feather test, and the but bump test, the color test, and the egg test.

Which ones work? Well the egg test doesn't. But is rather a false tale that I believe was told in Japan. (I am not positive) I goes like this the bird in the long egg is a rooster; the bird in the short fat egg is the hen.

The comb test- this works but unless you know what you are doing you usually have to wait till the chicks are older. This test will be more afffective if you compare chicks of the same breed and age. The ones with the smaller combs are likely to be hens..

The wing feather test- I have also heard from many that this is a great test to prove the sex of your bird. The Females feathers grow faster than the males. So the female鈥檚 feathers will be uneven at the wing and the males will be close to even at the wing. This test doesn't work with all breeds because not all breeds have this trait.

The but bump test- this is the test that many hatcheries use. If you squeeze the chickens bottom and there is a bump if it is a rooster, if not it is a hen. This though takes a well-trained eye and if you do not squeeze the bird correctly you could hurt it and possible kill it. So this test is not suggestible unless someone is with you that know how to do this and is willing to teach you.

The color test- in some breeds the roosters and hens can be determined by what color they hatch out as. I have also noticed that most roosters are lighter in hens. This may not be so with the breed of chicken that you own though.

Example would be the Red Star (The sexlink) rooster hatch out yellow and the hens hatch out red.

Hope this helps. Don鈥檛 be discouraged if you don鈥檛 find out what sex your bird is. This is a very difficult thing to figure out if you are new with chickens. Also it helps if you have other chicks of the same age and breed to compare it with. Then you can just see whom is bigger. The bigger chick will most likely be male. Males are commonly lighter than the females, but this is not always true.

The way I was taught was to look at their little wings. If the chicks feather are even, then it's a boy, but if one is longer, then short, then long all the way around, then it's a girl. but you have to look before the feather fully grown. But I don't know for sure. Just what I've been told. How do you sex baby chickens?Don't do that. That will be very mean!
i dunno why would u wanna do that there babies !!!!!!!?!?!!!!How do you sex baby chickens?Sexing baby chicks is a really hard task. Unless you're a professional, it's almost impossible. You can vent sex them (squeeze their bottom a little bit, and if you see something, its a male, if not, its a female). You can also look at their wing feathers (I'm not so sure on how this one works). How do you sex baby chickens?
on a baby chick look at the tip of its wing

on females there should be two rows of feathers and on males there should be a single row (not sure why)
just isolate a male and a female by theirselfsHow do you sex baby chickens?
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. you might wanna wait for that. It should happen naturally when they get older. For what purpose are you going to sell them?
