It's pleasurable to ensure that we do it regularly, if we didn't enjoy it, the population would fall, because there would not be enough babies made.
Since virtually all heterosexual couples engage in sex for pleasure more than to produce children, it also has an effect on forming a bond between the two people to ensure a stable home for the children to be bought up in.
This bond is also used by homosexual couples, so sex is important for them as well, to form a group or extended family. This can be seen by the homosexual acts performed by animals in the wild, and in zoos.
