What is it in human beings that drives the desire to have sex?

Lust maybe accredited, but i'm trying to find out what inspires this lust and what makes nuns for example not have this lust? Yes they may supress it, what is it besides opposites attract cos that rules out gay people. It can't be procreation cos most people don't have sex with the intention of making babies. So what is that element in human beings that centralises life around sex? What is it in human beings that drives the desire to have sex?Our bodies are whole in themselves except for our genitals, which are complete only in union with their counterpart. Hence, we experience sexual union as the joyous completion of ourselves. What is it in human beings that drives the desire to have sex?
Our bodies are wired to procreate, if we weren't we wouldn't be here. What is it in human beings that drives the desire to have sex?Very interesting question. What drives the desires to have sex. :) You mention lust, lust is the desire to have something beautiful. So, naturally you desire to have something beautiful. So, our sense of beauty has something to do with it. I don't think anyone will pass up a beautiful flower or a beautiful stone that you may find. Human beings seems to desire things beautiful or pleasing to the eye. So, this is probably what drives the desires for sex as well.
While creating babies may not be the reason for most sex, it is at the root of it.

Humans have the instinct for self-preservation and species preservation. Thus, sex itself and the mating rituals we have are all geared toward the favorable outcome of procreation with the best possible combination of DNA. In order to encourage us to spread our genes as far and wide as possible, nature or God or whatever you believe in has made sex an extremely pleasurable activity. And because it feels so good, we want to do it all the time whether we procreate or not...What is it in human beings that drives the desire to have sex?The short answer is hormones and social acceptance. Sex is a bodily function, partly voluntary, partly involuntary. It is akin to eating, breathing, sweating, and well, just plain living. What is it in human beings that drives the desire to live? What is it in human beings that drives the desire to have sex?
It ca not be explained but it can be experienced.

Turn of your P.C. and get busy.

Soon you will have your answer, but you to will not be able to explain it.
The human Flesh

beside we were design to have a desire to pro-create, to multiplyWhat is it in human beings that drives the desire to have sex?
Lust is inspired by the brain. The brain constantly throws out random thoughts, usually inspired by life experience. If no lustful thought appears, it may be inspired by the sight of something sexual, or by pressure on the genitals. The human body naturally has hormones that increase the likelihood that lustful thoughts or genital stimulation will lead to overt sexual thoughts and behavior. Hormones ask your brain to make sex happen. Your brain justifies sexual contact through love, sexual pleasure and social well-being. All these subconscious factors add up to such an overwhelming desire to have sex that most conscious attempts to suppress sexual desire are useless.

I understand the desire to believe that humans have free will; but the survival of the species depends on sex, and if you think that our biological mechanism does not reflect that, you are sorely mistaken. There are some who argue that homosexuality is the subversion of the hormonal response in order to alleviate overpopulation. If this is true, it fits into the picture of the human race and all life on Earth as an organic and self-correcting mechanism.
The same thing in the annimal world is also present in human world. Homosexuality is not a product of nature, it is a production of civilisations becoming decadent...............
Geeze people! Its just testosterone.
it is inherent in all sexual creatures to want to mate--the initial purpose for this IS procreation, however, humans have discovered the 'pleasure' side of this act and have decided to use it for that alone. there is also, with humans, the fact that having sex is a way to get closer to one he or she loves. again the evolutionary basis of love is for the survival of the species. it all comes down to not only reproduction, but protecting the human race. love and sex are the two ways that humans ultimately reassure both of these needs.
Our brains are designed in a way to determine what we observe growing up and apply it to what we perceive to be sexy.

Any person may be aroused by different things, it depends on what THAT person believes is sexy. Once they know, they know what to look for to 'satisfy' their sexual desires %26amp; fantasies.
Hormones. Our bodies give off hormones that trigger the sex drive. (Testosterone, Estrogen)

All people have a sex drive. Most learn to control it and keep it in check.

Making babies is what we born to do once we reach maturity. Our conscious minds give us the ability to control that drive.
