Question about English pronunciation?

hello! how do I know which syllable i should stress on a word? for instance: this word "persistent" I know the stress is placed on the first syllable. but my mind boggles at some cases that I can't figure out at all which syllable the stress is on? can anyone help? is there any online resource with any descent information? thanksQuestion about English pronunciation?
The emphasis is on the second syllable in "persistant". Usually, a dictionary definition will show where the strong syllable is.Question about English pronunciation?
An English dictionary is the easiest way of seeing which syllable should be stressed, I'm sure you know English is complicated and there are no definite rules for this.

It can also depend on where someone comes from - different English accents will put the stresses on different syllables and words in a sentence.

And persistent - is per'SIS'tent.

A word like acronym is 'AC'ronym

I'm sorry it's such a complicated language!Question about English pronunciation?
Your best bet is an English Dictionary but like the whole language it is complicated and takes many years to learn properly (all 16 of mine anyway). But whilst it is complicated it is a very good language.
