Is it better to preorder items or to buy it from a store when it is released?

I am a figure/game collector. This question has boggled my mind for quite some time. Besides the early bird price that some stores give pre-orderers, is it actually ok to wait for the item to be out?

Will there be any danger:

i.e. The store not keeping any figures but sending all of them off to pre-orders, or will they have enough left to accommodate people like me who prefer ordering stuff after the release date.

I'm refering not only to local stores but online ones as well. This applies more to anime figures as those are released in smaller quantities than video games,

Thanks for your help. Any answers will help me clear my doubts. :)Is it better to preorder items or to buy it from a store when it is released?
pre-order. its generally not that much more expensive than buying it in the store, and it means you definately get it as soon as they are released :)
You might want to try going to a store that will sell an item you want and ask if you can preorder the item and pay for it in advance directly from the store. This way, you know you will have it as soon as it becomes available. Is it better to preorder items or to buy it from a store when it is released?
Hi,

I think that they could rip you online. You may need to enter a pin number and these people may be fake. Then they could take all your money. I suggest that you go to the shop. So what if it is a latest release? Save up and take how much you think it will cost. If you don't have enough then you could go back anytime.

For your average Star Wars, Spiderman, power ranger figure you know it will be mass marketed. Why waste money pre ordering it when it will be on store shelves? But then there is the collector. If you truly want a variant or chase figure you may have to buy a case or preorder to get the entire line including chase variants.

Step up to the limited collector market and unfortunately preorder is a must. Some times preorders set the number produced. The further you go away from large cities the worse it gets finding a brick and mortar store to order with and it's down to Internet to get what you want.

While I hate to pre order anything, I collect one line that is a must to pre order. If you don't pre order you can't get them, with out paying secondary (black) market prices.
i would preorder it just to be sure that it doesnt sell out fast and that you get one
