Why don't they review and what will make them review?

It's very mind-boggling that there are so many people who read my story online and add my story to their alert list (which means when a new chapter is added, they will receive an email) but don't review. I mean, I may sound too unreasonable but if they like my story so much, why don't they review?

Also, I would like to know what kind of stories would make you want to review, aside from giving criticisms. Would the readers review if there is something interesting? Why don't they review and what will make them review?
I really don't know. I have this problem, too. They add my story to their favorites and their alert list, and sometimes even add me as a favorite author...but I still get no reviews. D:

I suppose that's the best compliment they can give you, though, right? Those who don't leave reviews are probably telling you to keep doing what you're doing, because it's working for them. They probably feel it isn't necessary to leave a review for you because of that. *shrugs*Why don't they review and what will make them review?
I'm sorry to let you know but for some people *nothing* you do will make them review. A politely worded request in your notes or summary may help, and please also not that many, many readers add stories to their alerts so that they can go back and read a story at a later date when they have time. And receiving criticism is the base of all reviewing. It's the purpose. Constructive criticism that is. Flaming is not tolerated by me, but anything anyone gives me to help me grow as a writer is appreciated. From mispelling to structure mistakes, to things wrong with the plot in general.

As a fellow writer, I know it is not unreasonable to want readers to review, but the sad fact is.... many people won't, no matter how you beg or plead. You could have the most amazingly interesting story ever... and some people will not review. It's a fact of life that as an author, you'll just need to accept and move on.Why don't they review and what will make them review?
Eh, people are weird. I would offer to review it, but it takes a very specific kind of story to keep my attention for very long, and honestly, I'm sure that your story doesn't have nearly enough velociraptors, earthquakes, and voodoo cultists to fit into that category.
